Welcome on our board. For your question it's of course possible to go from Casablanca to Mekness by train.
It'll cost you about 10 euros= 128Dh, and it takes about 3hours.
For example you have a train departure at 08h24mn AM and it'll join Mekness at 11h32mn AM.

Hi funmi, I personally like the train method in Morocco, it's safer, faster and could be very interesting experience.

Here's the train timetables for the connections and dates you suggested. Traveling in 2nd class (2ème Classe ) is comfortable, and fair enough.
