Destination Marrakech
Thanks to its historical heritage, infrastructure and tourist potentialities, the city of Marrakech has become the flagship destination of domestic and international tourism and a top choice for world events (congresses and conventions, Marrakech Marathon, International Film Festival, etc.).To get there the train remains the top means of transport for thousands of passenger as can be seen by the double-digit figures depicting the flow of traffic for departures as well as arrivals:
Given the trend observed, nearly 5 million passengers are awaited in 2010. All these needs have to be looked after. Just as many reasons also for providing the ochre-colored city with a new train station.
Naturally, we will miss the old station because it is evocative o so many memories. It was the source of inspiration for many novels and served as a setting in many movies. But such nostalgia will serve to engender enthusiasm for the new station staled to open its doors in the very near future.
New Marrakech station
Built at the corner of two main roads in Marrakech (Av Hassan II and Blvd Mohammed VI), the Marrakech Rail Center is located right in the city center in the Gueliz district currently undergoing a high degree of development. This building impressive in its dimensions takes inspiration from the monumental gates of the old town of Marrakech and symbolically looks out to a city that remains lively day and night.
Services & shopping
Inside, in addition to services directly connected to transport (reservation, ticket sales, baggage handling, etc.), the gallery spreads out in a vast vestibule area for meeting and interchange addressing a public increasingly sensitive to the practical and functional aspect. There are many shops and commercial high added value activities: shops, restaurants, banking services, car rentals, travel agencies, and pharmacy, etc.
With the future arrival of the high-speed train connecting Marrakech to Casablanca in 1 hour, distances will be reduced; the number of passengers increased and Marrakech will increasingly become one of the major capitals of an ever better-integrated national space.
