Morocco to play the link between South Korea and Africa Rabat - Morocco and South Korea are keen on developing triangular cooperation with African countries, State Secretary at the Foreign Ministry, Latifa Akharbach said here Monday.
This came at a meeting with Jae-Hyun Shin, Chairman of the board of directors of the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPKO), Korea's largest electricity supplier.
Talks with Shin, who is also South Korea's Ambassador for energy and resources, focused on trilateral cooperation between Morocco, South Korea and African countries and on fieldwork expertise of Morocco, Akharbach told MAP following the meeting.
Morocco is engaged in all the major cooperation forums created by South Korea, including the South Korea-Africa forum, the South Korea and Arab countries forum and the Korea Arab Society (KAS), said Akharbach, speaking of Morocco's readiness to engage along with South Korea in a cooperation framework touching sectors that match Africa’s development agenda.
The Moroccan official, who said she was very pleased with the intensity of bilateral exchange and the quality of consultations, underlined that such a momentum shows the two countries' resolve to extend the scope of relations and maintain them in the long term.
Akharbach also pointed to the intensification in recent months of trade relations between Moroccan and S. Korean private sectors with a view to identifying partnership opportunities in certain sectors, such as energy, engineering, road and rail infrastructure and water supply.
She also pointed to the growing interest of the Moroccan government in strengthening cooperation with South Korea in energy-based research and development on the basis of Morocco’s new strategy in this regard.
