Default Hello Everyone

Hi,
My name is Dan and I am new in this forum. I love to travel and my next destination is Morocco. I became interested in Morocco after I watched an episode about it on Lonely planet. I am planning to go into the Sahara, to watch the sun setting over an ocean of sand. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
thank you.

Hi and welcome Dan. I did a trip to the desert in April this year. It was part of a tour we did with a company called Rough tours. We did a camel trek from Merzouga and camped overnight in berber tents at Erg Chebbie. Comfy tents, a delicious meal and music provided by the camel guys. Then we set off at dawn on camels to watch the sunrise...magical... The desert IMO offers some of the best photo oportunities ever.

If you are interested in the idea of a tour I know roughtours offer all types of itineries and will taylor a trip to your requirements, if you wish to go it alone there are many guides around that will offer the same, but I think it would be wise to check if they have a good knowledge of the area. Best of luck with your trip. Morocco is a beautiful country and I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Default Merzouga

If you are going to Merzouga on your own to do a camel trek, I would recommend avoiding the Auberge Lahamada. It's a kind of a trap on the border of the dunes - if they succeed to bring you there, you will not be able to avoid their constant forcing to pay everything at their overrated prices. The place does not worth it. If you will be traveling with the overnight bus from Fes to Rissani, make sure to get off at the bus stop (and not where the Auberge Lahamada paid the bus driver to drop you off) and find your own ride to Merzouga (grand taxi). Make sure there isn’t a guide in your grand taxi that will steer you off the paved road to Merzouga and through the sand into the Auberge Lahamada. If you still end up at the Auberge Lahamada, I would recommend you walk the 15 minutes to the Yasmina and do your business there.
There is plenty of other nice accmodations that you can find in Merzouga.
Good luck!
