Default Healthcare In Morocco

It is wise to take precautions when visiting a country that is not known to you. This article will give you some idea of the healthcare situation when in Morocco.

Facilities in most Moroccan hospitals outside the main towns are basic and old-fashioned compared to those in the UK. Standards of medical care are acceptable, although specialised equipment/treatment may not be available, but most hospital staff are unlikely to speak English.

Although some initial emergency medical treatment may be given free, British nationals are likely to be charged for the majority of expenses incurred whilst in Morocco (including tests and investigations, medication and overnight stays in hospital, whether state or private).

It is strongly recommended that you take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance to cover the full period you will be in the country, and which includes evacuation to the UK if necessary. You should be aware, however, that most insurance companies will not authorise medical evacuation as a matter of routine, or because local hospitals are not up to UK standards. Make sure you check for any exclusions in your policy, and that you are covered for the activities you want to undertake in Morocco.

There are no specific vaccinations needed for Morocco, but if you are venturing to out of the way areas – it would be wise to be inoculated against tetanus.
