Rabat - Jazz notes kicked off the 8th Mawazine Rhythms of the World Festival, as Brazilian pianist, singer and composer Tania Maria took the stage to perform her best opuses.
The vivacious musician has taken music fans into a world of non-stop aural fiesta thanks to her piquant blend of festive Brazilian rhythms and daring improvisations, brimming with R&B, funk and Afro-Cuban flavors.
The Brazilian diva will leave the stage to a plethora of musicians coming from 40 countries to keep the beat at the 8th Mawazine Festival (May 15-23), such as American legend Stevie Wonder, American Alicia Keys, Australian Kylie Minogue and Italian Ennio Morricone.
The festival aficionados will have the opportunity to admire the warm voice of Algerian diva, Warda Al Jazayria, to which the festival will pay special tribute, as well as the stars of Arabic music, Hussein El Jasmi, Kadhim Saher, Samira Saïd and Najwa Karam.
In addition, there will be dozens of performances by Moroccan musicians, such as Fethellah Lamghari, Aziza Malak, Mohcine Jamal, Imetlaâ (living in the Netherlands), Abdelwahed Hajjaoui, Fatima Tabaamrant, Stati, Hamid Bouchnak and Fouad Zbadi, in addition to the bands of Fez City Clan, Ganga Vibes, Casa Crew and Groupe Jaaba.
In order to connect young musicians with veteran performers, the festival held the "Mawazine Generation". The contest has given the stage to aspiring musicians aged 15-30 to perform before a large audience and a professional jury.
Besides thematic performances, the festival features children’s shows and street shows that will go all over the main streets of Rabat for the pleasure of the festivalgoers.
Concerning plastic arts, the festival also features an exposition themed “Crossings”, which will bring together contemporary Arab artists from Morocco, Iraq, Palestine, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt and Bahrain.
