Chellah historical site rehabbed Rabat - An operation to weed and rehabilitate the Chellah historical site took place Thursday, as part of a process dedicated to the protection of historical monuments and remains in the city of Rabat.
The operation, which was carried out by about a hundred architect students from the National School of Architecture (ENA), aims to safeguard the aesthetically pleasing image of the site while preserving its flora.
Other historical sites in the Moroccan capital will also benefit from weeding and rehabilitation.
Chellah is a necropolis and complex of ancient and medieval ruins that lie on the outskirts of Rabat. The site is the most ancient human settlement on the mouth of the Bouregreg River.
Many of the structures in Chellah were damaged by the powerful 1755 earthquake, whose epicentre was in Lisbon. The site has been converted to a garden and tourist venue. |
