Rabat, Rabat is the political and administrative capital of morocco. It is situated in the north west of the country, on the Atlantic coast exactly in the left bank of bou- Ragrag River opposite to the ancient city; Sale. It is considered the centre of Moroccan government where the royal palace is, governmental authorities and embassies. The city historically speaking was founded in 1150 by the sultan almohade Abd Al-Mumin who built there a fortress (future Kasbah of Oudaļa) from which the name Rabat is derived. Rabat is famous for its various historical monuments, most of which are sites originated as far back as the seventh century and are definitely worth visiting for instance: the tower Hassan; the most famous monument of the city, it was built by Yacoub El Mansour (XII century) as a project to build the largest mosque of the Muslim world, Chellah, Kasbah of Oudaļa and many others. For a capital city, Rabat is very quiet and offers a number of excellent restaurants, clubs and pubs. The Medina is home to a few very good cafe-restaurants which are moderately priced and inexpensive. To finish with, Rabat is a place for distinctive food, unique music namely, Andalusian music, not to mention numerous luxurious hotels. |
