Morocco's world agriculture Morocco's world agriculture fair attracts 700 exhibitors, over 700,000 visitors
Meknes - The fourth edition of Morocco's international agriculture fair (SIAM), which ends Monday, has attracted around 700 exhibitors and over 750,000 visitors, said chairman of the fair association, Tarik Sijilmassi.
The fair, which opened on April 22 under the patronage of king Mohammed VI, featured scientific and technical conferences and cultural events, and was an opportunity to present the different partners with Morocco’s Green Plan and its major objectives.
The plan, which was launched last year, aims at promoting the competitiveness of Morocco's farming sector so that it becomes the driving force for the country's economic growth over the fifteen years to come.
Spanning on 100,000 square meters, SIAM presented agricultural products, livestock farming, agricultural mechanization and environment.
The fair is meant to display the north African country's agricultural products, and showcase its potentials to attract international operators in the field.
It reflects Morocco's will to step up the development pace of agriculture, which absorbs 40% of Morocco's active labour force, and employs 80% of the rural population. The sector also accounts for 16% of Morocco's GDP. |
