Rabat - Speaker of the House of Advisors (upper house), Maati Benkaddour, held, here Friday, separate talks with the ambassadors of Portugal, Switzerland and Saudi Arabia in Morocco.
According to a press release of the House of Advisors, Benkaddour's meeting with the Ambassador of Portugal, Joao Rosala, focused on ways of developing links between the two countries, especially in the economic, social and cultural fields.
Benkaddour reviewed, on this occasion, the major projects initiated by the north African country in various fields. He stressed the importance of partnership between the countries belonging to the two shores of the Mediterranean.
The Moroccan official also highlighted the efforts made by Morocco to reach a political solution to the Sahara issue. He added that these efforts were crowned by the presentation of the autonomy project in the southern provinces (The Sahara) under Moroccan sovereignty, a bold initiative that was supported and welcomed by the international community.
This meeting was an opportunity for the Portuguese ambassador to be acquainted with the characteristics of the Moroccan parliamentary system and the constitutional role assigned to both Houses of Parliament.
Later, Benkaddour held a meeting with ambassador of Switzerland in Morocco, Louis Bertrand, on ways to further strengthen bilateral relations.
On this occasion, the two sides affirmed their determination to deepen bilateral cooperation to serve the interests of both friendly peoples.
Benkaddour gave an overview on the contributions of the House of Advisors in legislation, monitoring and parliamentary diplomacy. He stressed the need to give new impetus to the parliamentary friendship group between the legislative institutions of the two countries.
On his part, Louis Bertrand hailed the excellent bilateral relations.
He also reiterated the position of his country, concerning the Sahara issue, which calls for achieving a peaceful and consensual solution to this artificial conflict.
Benkaddour held also talks with Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Morocco, Mohamed ben Abderrahmane ben Abdelaziz Al Bichr.
Discussions between the two officials focused on ways to enhance the excellent relations between the two brotherly countries, characterized by friendship, cooperation and coordination.
The Saudi diplomat praised King Mohammed VI’s efforts to achieve, through peaceful and diplomatic means, solutions to conflicts on the international scene. |
