Museum of Moroccan carpet inaugurated in Germany Museum of Moroccan carpet inaugurated in Germany
Espelkamp, Germany - A museum of the Moroccan carpet was inaugurated Monday in the city of Espelkamp by the German foundation "Toensmann", specialized in carpet manufacturing.
The museum will feature a wide range of carpets from across the kingdom, along with tools used in the carpet industry, manuscripts and pieces of Moroccan traditional furniture.
The Toensmann foundation was created in 1885. In 1963, the Toensmanns opened an office in Morocco to export carpets to Germany.
Speaking on this occasion, Toensmann said his settlement in Morocco has enabled him to learn about the kingdom’s history and civilisation.
The objects exhibited by the museum reflect a rich Arab-Muslim civilization that had once contributed to the European civilization, Eurodeputy Elmar Brok said.
For Germany’s ambassador to Morocco, Ulf-Dieter Klemm, the Moroccan carpet shows eagerness to preserve Morocco’s authenticity and Moroccans’ sense of creativity and innovation.
Morocco’s ambassador in Berlin, Rachad Bouhlal who attended the inauguration ceremony, said the museum reflects the long-standing relations between Morocco and Germany, which go back to 1506, recalling the first bilateral trade agreement signed in 1890.
The initiative to inaugurate this museum is bound to further promote friendship ties between the two countries, he said. |
