Wink ACC awards world peace prize 2009 to King Mohammed VI

Washington - The Washington-based Arab Community Center (ACC), awarded the world peace prize 2009 to King Mohammed VI, ACC Chairman, Oussama El Sharabassi, said.

The prize was awarded to the Moroccan sovereign "for his initiatives to consolidate peace in the world, his chairmanship of Al-Quds Committee, and his efforts to preserve sacred values and promote peace, freedom and democracy in the Maghreb region," Sharabassi told MAP.

The King was also awarded for his proposal to grant autonomy to Morocco's southern provinces, The Sahara, and for his efforts aiming to achieve sustainable development throughout Morocco in the political, economic, cultural and social fields, ACC Chariman added.

The organizers of the prize also highlighted King's initiatives to "protect family, women and child rights in Morocco, within the framework of promoting human rights."

The world peace prize 2009 was also given to Egypt's First Lady Suzanne Mubarak, chairwoman of the Suzanne Mubarak Women’s International Peace Movement.

She was awarded for her efforts in promoting peace and consolidating human, women and child’s rights as well as for her contributions to deliver humanitarian aid to the Palestinians in the war-torn Gaza, following the Israeli aggression.
