yes it will be weird for his family to call him Richard instead of Youssef. if he got a dual citizenship I guess it's not that bad since he could use Richard as a French and YOussef as an What nationality he is. They didn't mention his family name.. he only changed his first name? that will defeat the whole purpose if he got an Arab last name or maybe i just need to watch the video another time

It is very common that people with arabic names are subjet to discriminatim when it comes to job especially in Europe. I know many of them personly and most of them were forced to quit their countries of living and seek job in other ones. I think however that it is not a good solution to change your name for such reason.

I think it's a sort of a personal selfish decision to resolve the problem of "discrimination" in the short term
or maybe he just watched too many Richard Gere movies

This reminds me of a thought I sometimes have about Jewish people. They can so easily hide who they are to prevent discrimination against them. There are so many of us who cant hide who we are to escape. Women and members of races who are discriminated against for example.

Oh, it is an arab and not a Jewish man changing his name. I am getting confused.

Will changing his name really prevent discrimination? Well maybe if somebody has a very unusual name it may prevent companies considering the job application because they might think that because the name is unfamiliar they wont be able to relate to the culture the person comes from.
